Bionic Pancreas is most popular NEJM article in past month, receives significant popular media attention – June 19, 2014

Following the online NEJM publication of Drs. Steven Russell and Ed Damiano’s bionic pancreas Summer Camp and Beacon Hill studies on ADA 2014 Day #3 (“Outpatient Glycemic Control with a Bionic Pancreas in Type 1 Diabetes”), the paper has quickly rose to become the most viewed NEJM paper of the past month. The popular media has also run with the story, with articles on the study appearing in the New York Times, Time Magazine, NBC News, USA Today, Boston Globe, Huffington Post, NPR, CBS, Popular Science, US News & World Report, Fortune, Bloomberg, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, NIH News, and many more listed here. It’s truly great to see this visibility for automated insulin delivery, which will hopefully serve to raise awareness about the critical importance of this technology for improving type 1 diabetes. Our ADA 2014 Day #3 report highlights Dr. Russell’s presentation, and topline results were first shared at ATTD 2014. We’ll return with more in our ADA 2014 full report…
